Theme of this article is nasal vowels. Every vowel in Urdu has its nasal equivalent. But what is the main trait of those nasal vowels?

The main trait is those sounds which are pronounced have additional air-flow through the nose. And it is so that the sounds are double flowed and are pronounced by the same manner as ordinary, except additional air-flow through the nose.

That manner is pronunciation has its own symbol that like a letter “nun” without any dot over it. This moment came from Hindi where it is useful.

Also, the nasal vowels change manner of pronunciation and it is important because nasaled words can be close to non-nazal.

The next series of sounds begins from the sound “h”. It sloce to English sound “h” but never become quiet and always is pronounced as “h”, like in “humor”.

This short explenetion is necessary and after that, we can practice the sound.

Please pronounce,

Ham, hul – hAm – hAmAl – hEh – hOa – huna – mahO – nuh – nUl.

Short vowel “a” is promumced as a sound that is close to “e”.

The next sound is “I” and it is a lone I, like in “eagle”.
